Tips for Creating a Clean & Simple Kitchen

As you plan your kitchen remodel, you may feel overwhelmed by the options and styles available. If you are looking for a clean look and simple style, it is possible. You can have this look in any color scheme, no matter how small or large your space. Here are some design ideas to help you as you begin talking to kitchen remodelers.

Don’t Be Overwhelmed

One of the biggest hesitations people have with getting started on a kitchen remodel is the sheer number of choices. Not only do you need to choose a style, but also a color scheme – and that’s just the beginning. It’s no wonder there can be a feeling of being overwhelmed. Choosing experienced kitchen remodelers will help you throughout the process. They will listen to what you don’t like about your current space, ask questions and then guide you to a few options they think will fit your wants when it comes to style.

Choosing the Right Style

Clean and simple doesn’t necessarily dictate any particular style. Clean can refer to fewer lines in the cabinets and simple crown molding, or none at all. It can also speak to the décor. Perhaps you want a backsplash tile that blends into the cabinets and has fewer larger tiles. Or maybe a metal backsplash will work better for you. However, when a homeowner mentions they want a clean-looking kitchen, we often recommend one of these styles:

  • Modern
  • Contemporary
  • Industrial
  • Coastal
  • Traditional

With a few tweaks, almost any kitchen style can have the clean lines and simple look you’re after.

Color Matters

Yes, you can choose any color scheme and have it look clean, however, the key is to simplify the colors you choose. We recommend that you avoid bold hues. Although white is a great option, instead of pairing it with black, if simple and clean is your goal, consider a deep, rich gray instead. Any color scheme with harsh or bold contrast will detract from the look of a simple and clean kitchen.

Cabinets, Faucets & Fixtures

Perhaps the biggest choice that will add to the feeling you’re going for in your kitchen remodel are the cabinets. Consider choosing a flat-front cabinet with little or no detail if you want an ultraclean look. Shaker-style cabinets are another great option. Some traditional-style cabinets work, but only with straight lines. You’ll want your fixtures, faucets and even cabinet knobs and pulls to be the same color and style. Look at brushed finishes as they’re more subtle than chrome finishes, which are also harder to keep clean.
