3 Elements of a Successful Kitchen Remodel

When you finally decide it’s time to start on your kitchen remodel, you may be overwhelmed at the options. In reality, there are three key elements you’ll want to focus on for a successful remodel. It may surprise you that these aren’t the countertops, cabinets and appliances!

  1. Smart Design
Styles come and go, even in kitchen remodeling. A good design won’t need change until your family’s needs change. When you work with a design-build company, you’ll have experts with the experience to understand what works and doesn’t work in modern kitchen design.
A smart design differs slightly for every homeowner. Some need more cabinet storage while others prefer drawers. You may want a lot of prep space, and therefore need more open countertops than a family that doesn’t spend a lot of time prepping and cooking meals together. What you and your design-build company should focus on is the layout between the kitchen work triangle of the stove, sink and refrigerator. Having the right layout makes a difference in the efficiency of the space.
  2. Modern, Quality & Eco-Friendly Products
The main reason most people undergo a kitchen remodel is to modernize the space with some of the latest products. These modern elements include things like soft drawer closures, quartz or granite countertops and convection cooking.
When it comes to quality items, look at semi-custom and custom cabinets with real hardwood rather than pressboard. Dovetail drawers are another sign of quality in your cabinetry. If you’re replacing your flooring, consider real hardwood over laminate or engineered wood.
Aging kitchen appliances not only look bad, but also cost more to use. Most appliances today are ENERGY STAR®-rated. You’ll want to not only look at the ENERGY STAR rating, but other eco-friendly options like rapid pre-heat for ovens and convection cooking. Choosing a water-efficient faucet or low-low faucet can save on your water usage and still look great.
  3. Proper Build-Out
As you narrow down the design-build company you want for your kitchen remodel, learn about its experience and reputation. The more experienced a company, the higher the likelihood that it will do the job right and finish on time, while still following all building codes and manufacturer installation requirements. A company with a great reputation means that the job will be done right.
