How to Put a Modern Touch on Your Bathroom Remodel

When it’s time for a bathroom remodel, there are limitless possibilities when it comes to style and color. Most homeowners want their remodel to stand the test of time, yet look modern and trendy. Achieving that balance takes experience as well as knowledge of the styles that have been around a while and are fading, as well as things that are coming into style. Choose the wrong design/build company and you may not work with an experienced designer!

How to Put a Modern Touch on Your Bathroom Remodel

It Starts With the Layout

You may think that there are no other options for your space; however, that’s where the expertise of an experienced design/build company pays off. They know how to maximize the space for function and style. You may be surprised how one small tweak to the layout can change the feel of the space.

Choose a Color Scheme

Part of a modern bathroom remodel is in the color. If you don’t have a bathroom with a modern palette, it will always look dated, no matter the styling. There really are no “out of style” colors; it’s all in how you mix them with other colors. Gone are the days of a monochromatic bathroom. You’ll want a primary color and a secondary color. For a cohesive look, choose colors next to one another on the color wheel or colors that are tones of each other. For example, a stormy blue and a gray complement one another. If you are hoping for a beachy feel, consider a peach-hued sand color, with a pink you may find in a sunset as a secondary or accent color.

Look at the Lines

Because bathrooms are typically a smaller space, you’ll have a lot of lines. You don’t want to feel like you’re in a cell, so you need to plan those lines carefully. You and your designer should talk about the direction you want the tile laid, the style of the vanity, the countertop pattern and the shower tile. Sometimes simply adding an oval mirror or vanity with doors that have some softer curves will change the appearance of the space.

Final Touches

You’ll need light fixtures and faucets as well as some wall décor. What you choose for these final touches will define the space. Want to lean toward industrial modern? Consider bright chrome. Want something modern and a bit trendy? Go with gold. Brushed chrome is a safe and conservative option that goes with just about every style. The good news is that these final touches are among the easiest to change out in a few years when you feel you need a refresh in your space, rather than another bathroom remodel.
