Ideas for Your Outdoor Entertainment Space

An Outdoor Kitchen

An outdoor kitchen is one of the most popular hardscaping projects we handle. Not only is it a great place to entertain, it can help you keep your home cooler by moving the cooking outside. Depending on your space and budget, what you add will vary. Here are some ideas for your outdoor kitchen:

  • Grill
  • Pizza oven
  • Mini-fridge and/or ice maker
  • Table or bar & seating
  • Trash bin

An outdoor kitchen is usually part of a patio, which may mean you’ll need a patio addition or reinforcement of your existing one.

Fireplace/Pit

An outdoor fireplace or firepit is a great way to enjoy your outdoor space from spring through fall. A fireplace requires a larger budget than a firepit, however, a fireplace requires less space generally. No matter which option you choose, make sure to plan ample seating space.

Three-Season Room Addition

If you love the idea of fresh air and cool evenings outside but not the idea of bugs, you may want to consider a three-season room addition. A three-season room doesn’t have heating or air conditioning, but has windows, a ceiling fan, lighting and electric. You can enjoy the outdoors much of the year without being outdoors. If you have a sliding glass or French door to the outside, that’s a great place to consider this type of room. It’s different from a screened-in porch in that the windows keep the weather out.

Deck, Porch or Patio

Often when you decide you want an outdoor kitchen, you need a new patio as well. There are numerous differences in a deck, porch and patio. A deck is a platform that is connected to your home. It can be elevated to a second story or just a few inches off the ground, covered or uncovered. A porch is covered and can be elevated or ground-level. It is usually part of the home’s original design.

A patio is a space that has the biggest design options. It’s always on the ground, but can be attached or separate from the home. It can be covered or uncovered. Usually your outdoor kitchen, fireplace or firepit are on a patio. Most consist of stone, concrete or pavers.
