Kitchen Remodeling Trends for 2022

There are countless articles already covering kitchen remodeling trends for 2022. We read many of them and pulled out some of our favorites to highlight those that we think not only look great, but also have staying power. If this is the year you’re planning a kitchen remodel, consider talking to your designer about a few of these trends.

Creative Cabinetry

Instead of traditional upper cabinets with the same doors that you have on your lower cabinets, consider adding a mesh cabinet door. It adds texture and visual interest. This trend made its way overseas from England, where mesh cabinet doors have been utilized for centuries. If that doesn’t suit your style, consider shelving instead of a cabinet in parts of your kitchen. This has been a growing trend for a few years but is now something people are asking for. Another trend we’re seeing is cabinets without doors!

Bold Color

This is one of the kitchen remodeling trends that caught us a bit off-guard. For so long, kitchens have had a primary color (often white, cream or grey) and a secondary color that is only barely noticeable. Now the secondary color is a bold statement. Some ways to add pops of color include a bold backsplash or some fun wallpaper. Also consider bright cabinetry or appliances. The most popular color is green, which is likely because many paint manufacturers have named a shade of green as their “color of the year”. You can incorporate green in so many ways, including live plants.

Backsplashes of Marble, Granite & Quartz

Slab backsplashes can add a lot to a kitchen remodel. Choose a slab with a bold and diverse graining pattern and you’ve created visual interest in what is often a rather boring area of your kitchen. Some homeowners choose the same material for their countertops but you can choose something different. One reason we think homeowners love this is how easy it is to clean. Just remember, if you choose a granite backsplash, you’ll have to do some maintenance, just as with your countertop.

Soft Curves

Kitchens are mostly made of rectangles and squares. Your cabinets, drawers and appliances all have corners. Consider a way to soften your kitchen by adding softer touches. A few ideas include:

  • Rounded countertop corners
  • Hanging lights with curves
  • An arched entryway to the kitchen or over a window
  • Backsplash tiles that are either curved or have curves in the design
  • A round table or bar seats with rounded backs
