5 Things You Should Consider for Your Kitchen Remodel

Today’s kitchens (and the one you may have in your home today) share some common features. After all, what is a kitchen without a stove, refrigerator, sink and cabinets? However, if you want your new kitchen to look great and meet the needs of your family, you need to consider some of these features. Be sure to ask your remodeling company about their specific recommendations based on your family during your initial consultation.

1. More Power

One of the most frequent complaints of homeowners is that their kitchen lacks enough outlets. With smart home devices, phones that need charging and televisions often mounted under cabinets, the few outlets once standard in any kitchen no longer suffice. Of course, there are the traditional outlets you can add in the wall, or you can add a drawer for charging devices to keep cords and technology neatly tucked away. Another option is to include outlets with USB ports in addition to standard outlets.

2. Better Storage

If you can add a pantry, you’ll appreciate being able to see things easily so you know what you have and need. Don’t solely design your pantry around storing food; think about your occasionally-used appliances and cookware that you want to keep handy but not necessarily taking up valuable cabinet space. Your remodeling company can suggest where a pantry could fit if you’re doing a total remodel.

3. Wine Station or Bar

Depending on the beverages of choice in your home, consider a wine station or full bar area. Some modern additions to consider are a wine rack and refrigerator, standalone ice maker and liquor storage. You may even want to build a small cutting board into your bar area for garnishes! Skip the hanging wine glass rack as it takes up a lot of space and not all wine glasses today have stems.

4. Prep Sink & Pot Filler

Although you may not need both, depending how you cook and what you cook, you may want one or both of these items. A pot filler is a convenience, while a prep sink can add to the efficiency of your kitchen – especially when more than one cook helps with making the meal.

5. Silent Dishwasher

If you have an open floor plan, you may avoid running your dishwasher while you’re in the room. One of the best investments you can make is a “silent” dishwasher. Although not completely quiet, most silent models don’t make much more noise than running the water. You’ll be able to enjoy a meal while running the dishwasher!
