5 Elements of a Functional & Beautiful Kitchen

If your kitchen isn’t functional, you’re not going to want to cook in it. If it’s not attractive, you’re not going to want to eat or entertain there. Wanting a kitchen that you can show off is a perfectly good reason to start a kitchen remodel. Having a space that is both beautiful and functional should be the goal of any kitchen remodeling project.

Keys to a Good Design

A kitchen remodel is only as good as the design. The key to a good design is the kitchen triangle, which often is the reason a kitchen doesn’t work for people. Simply put, the kitchen triangle is the path between the stove, refrigerator and sink. Think about your current kitchen triangle. Does your kitchen problem start there?

Two key elements you and your kitchen remodeling company will want to work on as far as design goes is the lighting and an island. If you can’t see to work, you’re not going to appreciate the rest of the kitchen remodel. Consider can lighting, undercabinet lighting and pendant lights above an island or peninsula. As far as an island goes, it can add considerably to the countertop space as well as to storage space.

Creating Beauty in Your Kitchen

When you and your designer work to pinpoint your style, you’ll quickly realize there are many ways to add to the beauty of your kitchen.

  • A beautiful backsplash – A tile, metal or glass backsplash can be an eye-catching element in any kitchen. Although the backsplash can be a way to cut the budget, it’s also a great place to splurge.
  • Range hood – Instead of the usual metal range hood, look at a cabinet-style hood, a brick front or even a decorative metal hood that compliments the overall kitchen style.
  • Waterfall countertop – If your countertops are the showpiece of your kitchen remodel, consider adding a waterfall countertop to your island or another prominent countertop end. It’s luxurious and beautiful.
  • Open shelving or glass-front cabinets – Although few people want their whole kitchen to have open shelves or glass-front cabinets, selecting a focus wall and adding these elements can give you a beautiful showplace for special items within your kitchen.
  • Unique seating options – A booth or even built-in seating can add to the flow of the kitchen. Creating harmony in the kitchen is one way of creating beauty.
