When Is the Best Time to Remodel?

We’re often asked if “now” is a good time for a kitchen remodel or a bathroom remodel. Although there are times when one remodeling project may be more convenient to do, that’s really the best answer we can give. Unless, of course, you have the luxury of remodeling a home while you’re living elsewhere. Then the best time to remodel is now!

Remodeling Seasons

At G.M. Roth Design Remodeling, we have completed just about every interior remodeling project throughout the year. However, there are times when it’s more convenient for homeowners to plan certain projects. Other projects need a bit of weather cooperation, so they’re best done outside of winter. Here are a few suggestions on when to do some projects.

  • Fall – Some families find that fall is a better time for all remodeling projects. Kids are back in school and everyone has a schedule. The key is to work with an experienced remodeling company who can stick to their timeline so that you don’t end up with an incomplete project over the holidays.
  • Winter – Winter is a great time for a bathroom remodel. There’s not much you’ll have to worry about, other than moving everything out of the bathroom. It’s also a great time to finish a basement.
  • Spring – If you want a new deck, building it in the spring gives you the summer and fall to enjoy it. Plus, if you’re planning on it being a covered porch, we can install the roof shingles because the temperatures typically remain above freezing. Home additions and attic projects are other remodeling projects that work well in spring.
  • Summer – Because you have more options for eating and cooking outside, summer is the most popular season for a kitchen remodel. It’s also a good time for home additions, decks, basement refinishing and just about any other home remodeling project on your list.

‘When Can You Start on My Home Remodel?’

That depends very much on the project, elements we need to order and the manufacturers’ timelines. You’ve likely heard about chip shortages and other issues with the availability of certain electronics. Although manufacturing issues could potentially impact any remodeling project, it’s most common in the kitchen. By working with an experienced remodeling company who has a remodeling process, you’re less likely to have a project started and then have to live with it only partially completed.

If you’re ready to move forward with your kitchen remodel, bathroom remodel or other project, talk with your remodeling company. Get the plans finalized and choose the elements you’ll need for the project. From there, the remodeling company can contact manufacturers and plan for delivery of your elements. They can then work backward to determine a start date.

We think you’ll agree that it is best to delay the start of the project until we know that the elements we need to finish it are available. That way, you are not stuck living in a half-finished kitchen remodel or without a bathroom for longer than planned.
