Whether you’re undergoing a whole-home remodel with the help of a remodeling company, updating your kitchen or just want some DIY ideas, we have a bunch for our pet-loving customers!

Kitchen Remodeling Ideas

If you own a dog, you no doubt know they love to be in the kitchen when you’re cooking and eating. However, it can be frustrating when they get underfoot. Dog (and cat) dishes always seem to be in the way. We have some solutions to consider while planning your kitchen remodeling project.

  • Built-in dog bed – Instead of putting cabinets under your island or another part of your kitchen, one of the easiest ways to solve the “dog underfoot” problem is to add a dog bed. It keeps them out of the way but gives them prime viewing of any dropped treats.
  • Dog dish station – There are many ways to approach this. If you’re choosing custom cabinets, ask about having a cabinet made that holds the dog dishes. Another option is to forgo the bottom cabinets in one area and have a place that’s out of the way for the dishes on the floor.
  • Water bowl filler – If you have a dedicated space for a pet’s dishes, why not add a pot filler to make the task of filling the water dish easier and more convenient?
  • Food storage – Having a place for your pet’s food and treats keeps it out of the way. Tilt- or slide-out bins similar to your trash can storage are a great option. Again, this is easiest with custom cabinets; just know the dimensions of the container you use for your pet food so that the new storage area will hold it.

Remodeling with your pets in mind doesn’t have to add significantly to your budget, but it can add greatly to your convenience and ease factor.

Home Remodeling Pet Conveniences

There are lots of ways to add pet-friendly features to other areas of your home. Have you ever wondered what to do with that empty space under the stairs? It’s another great place for a built-in dog bed or cat play area. Open up one side and create a space to pamper your pets. If you’re adding a mudroom or remodeling a laundry room, consider a dog wash. You’ll find it’s also a great way to rinse off muddy boots and even kids after a fun and messy day outside.

If you don’t have the space for a separate dog wash, add an extra-low showerhead to your bathroom remodel. Choose a fixture with an easy magnetic head that you can quickly remove and replace while washing your pooch. Talk to your remodeling company about some fun pet-inspired wallpaper. You may be surprised to find that the perfect way to show your love of a four-footed family member is really that simple.
