Continuing Trends in Bathroom Remodeling

Although some trends – like pink tubs, toilets and sinks – come and go (and hopefully never return), there are many trends that have staying power. If you’re looking into a bathroom remodel but want to make sure that the style you choose works for years to come, here are some bathroom remodeling trends that have staying power. The key is improving the bathroom’s looks, efficiency and conveniences while creating a style you truly appreciate.

Freestanding Tubs

For many years, the corner jacuzzi tub was the must-have item in every bathroom remodel. Now homeowners are choosing freestanding tubs over corner tubs or another built-in style. Freestanding tubs offer flexibility in size, shape and design. This allows just about any bathroom to have a tub that coordinates with the bathroom remodeling style you’re going for.

Spa Showers

A spa shower features wall nozzles, a rain showerhead and a standard showerhead with adjustable sprays – ranging from a gentle spray to massage settings. You initially may think of this as wasteful, but with more efficient showerheads, you may just end up using less water after all. If you and your partner need to get ready at the same time each day, consider a shower designed for two.

Heated Floors

Because tile is still the material of choice in any bathroom remodel, you may want to consider heated floors, especially in our climate. Our winters are long and cold, and there are few things that will wake you faster than a cold tile floor! Because heated floors are now energy-efficient and affordable to install, they’re a much more common addition.

Cabinets Over Linen Closets

There was a time when every bathroom had a built-in linen closet. Today, it’s much more common to remove the closet and use the space more efficiently by installing a floor-to-ceiling cabinet. Cabinets can have pull-out shelving, making for better organization and useful space. Because shelves are adjustable, you can configure the cabinet just as you need it and then change it as necessary.

Vessel Sinks

A vessel sink is one that sits on the countertop rather than being mounted beneath, and is available in many styles, colors, sizes and shapes. You may want to consider a vessel sink in a hall bath or secondary bath if you’re looking to impress your guests. Make sure to understand the sink height before you make this choice as a vessel sink may be difficult for children to use. Plus, if you don’t choose the right faucet, it may be difficult for anyone to use!
