4 Options to Improve Your Entertaining Space

Now that the weather is nice and we’re starting to entertain again, you may realize that your home is missing the right kind of entertainment space. One way to improve it is by building a new deck or home addition. Both can fit into almost any budget and provide you with just the type of space you want.

Outdoor Options

If you just want to improve your outdoor space, you have many options, depending on your property and home configuration. If your main living area is above ground level, you’ll be looking at a deck or porch. If it is at ground level, we can talk about a patio, porch or deck. Here are some options that may help with your outdoor living space.

  • Add a patio – A patio can be basic with just a level area for entertaining, or more elaborate with an outdoor kitchen, water feature and planters.
  • Build a new deck – A deck is usually defined as an elevated space and can be as simple or elaborate as you want.
  • Cover your porch or patio – If you like entertaining in any type of weather, consider adding a roof to your porch or patio. Of course, if you’re building a new deck and want it covered, that’s an option as well.
  • Enclose or build a screened-in space – For those who love to entertain at dusk but don’t love the bugs, a screened-in porch may be the perfect option. If you already have a deck, porch or patio, we can enclose it or we can create a home addition that suits your needs.

Indoor Options

For families who already have a great outside space or prefer to entertain inside, there are ways to work with a remodeler to improve an indoor entertaining space. One common option is a sunroom or three-season room. A sunroom is a glassed-in living space attached to your home but often separated from the main living space by doors. This sort of home addition is one of the most affordable because it’s a separate living or entertaining space attached to the home. Although the space isn’t typically heated or air conditioned, you can add a mini-split system and use it most of the year. Of course, you can also add a new deck or patio to the sunroom for some outdoor space as well.

Another common home addition is expanding the kitchen area in conjunction with a kitchen remodel. This can give your kitchen the seating you need to better entertain. If you simply want to create an open-concept home from several rooms, you may not need a home addition. However, if you and your remodeler still can’t come up with a plan to create the type of entertaining space you want, a home addition may be the best solution.
