Trending Bathroom Remodel: A Bathroom Spa

Even before we lost access to spas due to the coronavirus shutdowns in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, creating a spa-like bathroom was trending. If you’re considering remodeling your bathroom, why not create a space that is not only functional but relaxing – like you may have experienced at a luxury hotel or seen in a movie? With the right bathroom remodeling company, anything is possible. Here are some current bathroom trends that will give you the spa-like environment you’ve dreamed about.

Choose Soft Tones

One thing you’ll notice on any current episode of a remodeling show or in a newly constructed home is that the colors are soft and relaxing. Consider grays, pale purple, soft pinks and peaches, and smoky blues. Colors to avoid are earth tones and contrasting color combinations.

Modern Amenities

Spas and bathrooms in high-end hotels and homes don’t look like typical bathrooms because of their modern features. Some you may want to consider include:

  • Floating vanities
  • Open shelving
  • Undercabinet lighting
  • Vessel or trough sinks
  • Doorless showers
  • Waterfall showerheads or multiple showerheads
  • Stand-alone tubs

You don’t have to choose all these options, but adding a few will add to the spa-like feel of your bathroom remodel.

Custom Features

Depending on your idea of what spa-like means, you may have different ideas about the space. For example, heated floors and a heated towel bar may be the utmost in luxury to you. To another person, it may mean built-in speakers, a television and other electronics to remain connected.

We often remind our customers to think about a bathroom remodel for the long term. Depending on your age, you may want to consider a zero-entry shower and grab bars disguised as towel bars. Other options to consider if you’d like to age in place are touchless faucets and a bench in the shower.

Lighting

If you’re planning to spend time relaxing in your new space but also need good lighting in order to get ready for work each day, you may think lighting will be an issue. However, with today’s technology, you can have the best of both words. Installing light fixtures on a dimmer allows for both bright and soft lighting. Some switches can even be controlled by your phone. Depending on local code, you may be able to have a chandelier hanging dramatically from your ceiling for just the right kind of light. Of course, if your idea of a spa-like space includes natural light, you’ll want to ask your bathroom remodeling company about adding a window, skylight or solar tube.
