Tips to Choose the Perfect Bathroom Vanity

As you begin your bathroom remodeling project, one of the many decisions you’ll need to make is regarding the bathroom vanity. It’s a complex decision. Not only do you need to find something that suits the style you’re going for, you also need to make sure it has the features and functionality you want or need for your space. Here are some tips to help you choose the perfect vanity for your bathroom remodel.

With these tips, we’re assuming you and your bathroom remodeling company have already come up with a design and you know the size of the vanity you need. We’re also assuming you’ve already come up with a style and color palette you’d like in your new space.

Tip #1 – Style

The vanity style you choose will set the tone for the space. It’s an element in the bathroom everyone will see and, hopefully, use each time they’re in the bathroom. There are many ways to choose a vanity that suits your style. For example, furniture-style vanities are a great way to blend modern and vintage style. Shaker style is ideal for a traditional bathroom. If you’re going for modern, look at flat-front cabinets.

Tip #2 – Keep Proportion in Mind

In a small bathroom, a large furniture-style vanity with lots of details can overwhelm the space. Rather, consider an open-shelf vanity or a minimalistic one. If you’re concerned about storage, consider baskets on shelves or neatly displaying towels and other items. Don’t let your vanity feel like it’s taking over the space.

Tip #3 – Choose Functional Space

Most homeowners have something that they don’t love about their vanity – usually that it doesn’t have the right type of space. Think about your current vanity. What do you like or not like about it? If you don’t like the drawer configuration, take note of your current one and find drawers that better suit your needs. When you choose your vanity based on the type of space it provides, you’ll end up liking your whole bathroom remodel more.

Tip #4 – Think About Cleaning

Some vanities, especially furniture-style ones, have lots of small detail in the design. This requires more cleaning than a flat-front cabinet. If you have small children, you might want to find a material that’s easy to wipe down rather than a light-colored wood cabinet. Some homeowners with pets who shed a lot don’t want a vanity that is off the ground or wall-mounted so they don’t have to clean under it at all. This may seem like a minor consideration, but it’s one that you will appreciate in the long run.

Tip #5 – Budget

Finding a balance between a vanity you love and one that fits your budget is possible. One way to help stay in your budget is to make sure that the vanity you’re considering necessitates few or no changes to your existing plumbing. Anytime you add a plumber to a job, you’re adding to the cost.
