Bathroom Remodeling on a Budget

Most people looking to remodel any part of their home have a budget in mind. Although the Remodeling 2020 Cost vs. Value Report estimates that a midrange bathroom remodel costs an average of $20,000, there are ways to save. In fact, as long as you have a realistic budget and expectations, you can make it happen with the help of a skilled bathroom remodeling company. Here are some suggestions to keep your bathroom remodel within budget.

Bathroom Remodeling on a Budget

Dual Sinks Rather Than Two Vanities

Although two vanities are common in today’s master bathrooms, you’ll use more of your bathroom remodeling budget for two separate cabinets instead of one large one. This is not only because of the vanities themselves, but also the extra countertop and potential changes to plumbing. You may also notice another benefit in that one vanity can have either a wide drawer stack between the two sinks to provide plenty of counter space or two separate sets of drawers.

Ditch the Whirlpool Tub

Although it’s nice to have when you want a good soak, how often do you really use the tub you have? There are many added expenses with a whirlpool tub including power and the need for an accessible area for power rather than a sealed area, as you would have with a standard tub.

Flooring

Bathroom flooring varies greatly in price. Of course, the most common material is tile, and there are ways to save on tile flooring. One option is a less expensive tile. Another is a simple installation pattern since the more complex the pattern, the more overage you’ll require in materials and the more time it will take the installer. If tile is still outside of your budget, consider luxury vinyl tile. It comes in many great looks and styles but costs less for installation than ceramic or porcelain tile.

Utilize Your Existing Layout

This often generates the biggest savings. If your bathroom remodel requires moving plumbing, electrical or both, you’re substantially adding to your budget. You may think that you can’t possibly keep your current layout, but if you talk to your bathroom remodeling company about the things that aren’t working for you, they may have solutions that allow you to use the existing layout and solve your pain points in the current space.
