Make Some Extra Space With a Room Addition

When you need just a little more room, whether it’s a guest room, home office or mudroom, it makes sense to call a remodeling company about a room addition. It’s so much easier than moving and you’ll have just the space you want and need, rather than settling – as you may have to if you buy a new home.

Building Up

One of the most common places to construct a room addition is on top of the garage. Most two-car garages are about 400 square feet. They typically measure about 20 feet by 20 feet, which is more than sufficient for just about any type of room. Some of the rooms we’ve added above garages include:

  • In-law suite, which can include a separate entrance
  • Bonus room
  • Home gym
  • Office space
  • Home theater

The biggest challenge in many homes when adding a room addition above the garage is accessing the space, which may require the addition of a stairwell or modification to the existing upstairs portion of the home to access the new room. Of course, if your home is one story through all or part of it, it’s often possible to add more than just one room.

Adding On

Of course, if your only goal is adding another room like a home office, mudroom or sitting area, ask your remodeling company how to make it happen. They may have an idea to give you the space you need that you hadn’t considered.

If you’re already planning a kitchen remodel and want a little more space in the home, adding onto the kitchen area may be a great solution. If you’re planning a whole-home remodel, this is a great time to consider a room addition. Adding onto your home during a remodel helps ensure the addition looks as if it was always part of the home.

Enclosing a Porch or Patio

One of the least expensive ways to add some space to your home is by enclosing a porch, especially if there is already a slab poured that is in good condition. Some homeowners looking for a sitting area, additional living space or an office or homeschool area find enclosing their patio to be a great solution. And if you still want some outdoor living space, your remodeling company can help with that as well.
